LETTERS: Readers sound off on Matt Baker, Linda Dulin, FOX News and the will of Hewitt voters

Baker is guilty

Jim Fitzhugh was wrong for writing in a Jan. 26 letter that Linda Dulin, Kari Baker’s mother, was “smiling like the cat that ate the canary” after Matt Baker’s murder conviction. If he thinks Matt Baker is not guilty, then he has a very serious problem.

As far as Baker’s not being the right man for her daughter, would you want him as your son-in-law? Would you want the Bakers raising your grandkids? Mr. Fitzhugh, do you have a daughter? If so, I wonder, sir, if the shoe were on the other foot, how you would react?

You are right that Vanessa Bulls does need to be punished and held accountable for her actions. If she had come forward and revealed Baker’s plot to kill his wife, Kari Baker might still be alive today.

Linda Dulin should know and take comfort in the fact that there are a lot of people praying for her. I have a daughter, and I would have done the same thing Dulin did.

Mr. Fitzhugh, you probably should get to know Matt Baker better. I suspect you two would get along well.

Resounding anger

President Barack Obama says he recognizes the anger in the country, but he apparently hasn’t a clue if he believes it is directed toward the last administration. It’s directed toward him, the other ideologues in his administration and Congress.

There is not only anger, there is uncertainty and a fear, almost, in what is coming toward us. No one in charge seems to grasp the situation or has the ability to govern responsibly.

I feel the anger and the fear, most palpably, when I hear the words Obama spoke so often during his campaign: “We are going to fundamentally transform the United States of America!”

What does that mean? The United States does not need to be fundamentally transformed by him or anyone else.

There is another man, presumably in a cave in northwestern Pakistan, who also wants to fundamentally transform America.

Not real journalism

Not surprisingly, Fox News chose to break away from the question-and-answer session following President Barack Obama’s recent televised speeches. Instead, they brought in one of their “designated hitters” to attempt to counter Obama.

Fox News is a troubling phenomenon because it does not play by the golden rule of journalism. Fox News is not a news channel. It is a right-wing political media enterprise that endangers our national unity.

I can always tell when a letter writer gets his “facts” from Fox News. A caveman could see it.

No means no

What part of “no” does Hewitt not understand?

Voters told the city of Hewitt no in a recent bond election when they voted down purchasing land for a new public safety facility. Yet after a recent, closed-door meeting, we learned that the city is trying to go ahead with its plans anyway.

This begs the questions: who is pushing this issue. and what is to be gained by this land purchase?
