LETTERS: Readers sound off about Bill Flores, Doc Anderson and the conservative slant of the Trib
Support Bill Flores
As a longtime resident of College Station, I want to express my fond regard for Republican congressional candidate Bill Flores.
I am transplanted from the Panhandle of Texas, just like Bill and Gina Flores. We were taught in the Panhandle that your word is your bond, and it is said with a true Texas twang. We might be “carpetbaggers” to District 17, but we do not lie.
There have been many false reports circulated about Flores by folks throughout the Brazos Valley and beyond. But Flores is ready and willing to shine the light of truth on any and all of these frivolous accusations.
I personally have spent many hours with Flores and observed him carefully in the debate panel before making my decision to support him. There is no doubt that Bill Flores can sponsor bills and will vote on bills with true social and fiscal conservatism. Most importantly, he will be able to work within the necessary system to pass good legislation without being suckered into becoming part of the system.
He’s a solid businessman who can protect our oil, gas and mineral rights, from which 50 percent of all our state tax revenue comes. The continuation of our mineral rights is imperative to the success of our state. It is imperative that Flores, the only candidate qualified to make good energy decisions, be elected in the Republican runoff.
We’re tired of Washington politics and politicians. It is time that one who is truly Texan represents us.

Defending ‘Doc’
State Rep. Charles “Doc” Anderson took care of our precious dog during its declining years. The animal had several health issues and required surgery from this talented veterinarian.
My husband and I were in our 80s and were quite attached to this dog, which had a character likeness to Lassie. Our grandson also loved this dog dearly and spent much time at our home with the pet.
Anderson could have charged us an unreasonable amount of veterinarian fees, and we would not have questioned the costs. However, he was most considerate and reasonable with his charges.
He has a heart for his clients and canine patients. He and his wife were as concerned for our dog as we were. He has served our state in the same manner that he serves his clients. God bless Doc Anderson.

‘Tribbles’ pages
Ever since the Trib morphed from center left to center right, its Opinion pages have become troubling to read indeed. Once a place for political debate, the Trib now hosts mostly conservative opinions.
I call them “Tribbles.” They’re full of rants from hyperconservative Central Texans who conveniently forgot all of the economic catastrophes that were awaiting President Barack Obama on his first day in office.
The trouble with those who write “Tribbles” is that they have a selective memory and are already plotting and scheming, hoping to elect conservatives to Congress who will resume business as before. Shouldn’t they at least wait long enough for Obama to clean up the mess that former President George W. Bush left behind?
