LETTERS: Readers raise the dickens with John Kelso and Chet Edwards while praising Rob Curnock

Belittling sarcasm

Many of us believe the U.S. government has grossly overstepped the restrictions intended for it by its founding documents. So we are horrified at the determined efforts by some to rewrite history and change the very character of our nation.

In a recent column by Cox News Service’s John Kelso [“Brushing up on American history”], Kelso weighed in somewhat weightlessly on the recent school textbook debates in Austin. He seemed compelled to ridicule those of us who hold traditional values, who think those values worthy of being passed down to generations of children in our public schools. He infers that we are rather stupid, uninformed and far too dull to understand.

But we do understand. We see our nation cut loose from its moorings, set adrift, and on a course towards turbulent, uncharted waters.

Maybe Kelso believes our government should own banks and car companies, and 30 percent of all the land in America. Perhaps he sees nothing wrong when 525 elitists in Washington feel entitled to make every decision on our health care, college education, the cars we drive and even the light bulbs we may use in our homes.

If he believes these things, then let him make his case directly, without condescending sarcasm. Belittling insults add little to legitimate debate.

Support Rob Curnock

Two years ago, conservatives were thought to be politically dead. I guess we finally got that change we were all looking for. The change I refer to was prompted by the Tea Party.

The organization has been good for America, but it would be an understatement to say we are mobilized. The only way to do this, Central Texas, is to vote April 13 for Rob Curnock to be our U.S. representative in Congress.

In the November primary election for District 17, Curnock won six of 12 counties and two of three population centers. He has the grassroots support conservatives need to finally force Washington to listen to the voices of Central Texas.

He does not have the qualifications of our current politicians. And I am proud that he’s nothing like the bums who now occupy all levels of government. They are qualified to lead us further down the path of debt, deficit, bankruptcy and loss of freedom and individual rights.

We should elect our representatives and senators on these principles: Will they secure my liberty? Will they serve as guardian and champion of the Constitution?

Curnock definitely will.

Forsaking values

It’s sad to see a congressman such as U.S. Rep. Chet Edwards forsake his values just to appease the insurance lobby and his right-wing constituents by pledging to vote against health care reform.

Reform is vital to our nation to keep down health care costs and is in the best interests of Americans. Even the American Medical Association has endorsed health care reform.

Edwards is more interested in getting re-elected than doing what is best for his country. His vote against health reform will prove that it is time for career politicians to leave because they have become too embedded with lobbyists.
