LETTERS: Readers offer different view of the Tea Party

Tea Party misnomer

In response to Jackie Lott’s March 25 letter on the “Tea Party hate,” I’d like to say that news reports about racial slurs said at the Washington Tea Party rally would be disturbing to anyone.

But news reports often give half-truths. I was not there to witness what was said. If racial epithets were said, then a sincere apology should be given.

I belong to the Waco Tea Party, and we do not support such behavior. We believe in standing up for our rights. We believe elected officials in government have turned their backs on us.

I do not care who is president — whether he be white, black or brown — but what he is doing is wrong. He is not doing what the people have asked.

We stand faithfully with our Constitution, which has been followed and has worked more than 200 years.

Why do we need to do things differently now?

I feel sorry for our children and grandchildren. They will be working in the future just to pay taxes that have been accrued during this administration and the ones before it.

Despite news reports, the Tea Party is not a group of monsters. I invite you to one of our meetings or rallies so you can see we are composed of all races. We are just people who care about our country and where it is headed.

‘Tyranny’ in our midst

David Daithi Fisher wrote in his March 27 letter that we should all just “move on” since the disastrous health care legislation has been made into law. This is the same advice offered by King George III to the colonists as he continually imposed onerous law and taxation on our forefathers.

Failure to stand up to tyranny results in subservience and the complete loss of freedom and individual rights. It is absurd to suggest otherwise, as history is replete with examples of this. Caring citizens will not stand down, as the writer suggests.

Now is the time for action before this administration’s illegal, unconstitutional and untenable policy and fiscal malfeasance drive this nation to utter ruin.

We will not just move on, but we will stand and fight for the rights granted us by the Almighty and the Constitution of the United States.

Foreign war costs

When I consider all the negative comments and publicity concerning the recently passed health care bill, it causes me to wonder: Where were all of these protesters and naysayers supposedly concerned over budget-busting when, from 2002 through 2008, we had multiple bills to fund the war in Iraq?

American money was going to rebuild a foreign country. Where were the commentaries voicing dire concerns about the direction of the country then?

Where were the Tea Party activists? I guess Republican, flag-waving, God-loving, loyal Americans were passing that legislation, so it was all right.

Why not update the Stats Plus section of the Trib’s Internet site? We are deep into softball, baseball and track seasons, and this section is still stuck on basketball. Let’s get going.
