LETTERS: Readers heap praise on Carol Dugat, Chet Edwards and Clifton Robinson
Support Carol Dugat
I urge voters in District 1 to support Carol Dugat for Waco City Council in May.
Voters long for leaders who can consistently see possibilities in even the greatest challenges. Dugat is such a leader.
She sees not only with her eyes but with her heart. She is honest, courageous, resilient and dedicated.
We want leaders who aren’t intimidated to speak truth to power and who are generous of spirit rather than small and mean-spirited. We’re clamoring for someone who’s able to say, “I don’t know, but I sure will do my homework for you about this.”
Dugat is that person. She is all about Waco, and her passion is directed to satisfy lingering East Waco community needs.

Less big government
The government wants to run our health care system and not run the space program? Well, they’ve got it backwards again.
Does anyone think the health care system would be the best in the world now if the government had run it the past 50 years? Do they think the space program would have accomplished as much if it has been run by private enterprise?
Some things must be done by the government, and some things must be done by private enterprise to be successful and advance.

Democratic slant
In answer to Kitty Maxwell’s March 11 letter accusing the Trib of a “Republican ‘slant’ ”: Well, we Republicans had put up with a Democratic slant for a long time.
I’m proud of the Robinsons and their motto “In God we trust.” And I’m proud of them for straightening up the Trib’s Democratic slant.
Now we need to get our president to quit ramming spending bills and health care reform down our throats.

Praise for Edwards
U.S. Rep. Chet Edwards, D-Waco, fights for our district, and it’s good to see that our congressman is above the Washington game. We need more people in Congress like Edwards who are focused on getting jobs rather than scoring political points in D.C.
Edwards has been able to save hundreds of jobs at L-3, the Waco Veterans Affairs Administration and even at the Frazier & Frazier manufacturing plant in Coolidge, where job losses could have closed down the town.
He has his priorities straight and knows the only way we’re going to turn the economy around is through jobs. He has shown he can deliver.

Kudos to Trib owner
What a great column by Trib chairman Clifton Robinson on March 7, “Reeling in the chaotic quake of ‘Obamanation.’ ” He really expressed accurately the awful happenings going on in our nation’s capital.
I stopped subscribing to the Trib when it was Cox media-owned and manipulated against the vast majority of conservative readers. But I’m back and proud to be a subscriber to the Trib!
