LETTERS: Outrage over letter from Indiana reverend against Texas teams and President Bush

Cowboy firing letter outrage

Regarding the Nov. 15 letter from the Rev. Thomas E. Sagendorf, of Hamilton, Ind., who wrote he gets “a certain pleasure when any Texas team loses,” he does not sound like how a “Reverend” should feel.

It is obvious he did not like George W. Bush and his vice president and his Cabinet. But after all, the people of the United States elected Bush, not once, but twice, as president of this great country.

To admit having pleasure when Texas teams lose — whether college or professional — is not what I would think God would want one of his chosen ones to profess. He is supposed to teach humility among men and not arrogance and hatred, as the letter seems to reflect.

Is his letter specifically directed to church-affiliated colleges, like Baylor University or Texas Christian University or Southern Methodist University?

If his gripe is with Bush, then he should have kept it at that and not brought Texas sports into it.

“Reverend” (and I use this term loosely): You did not state what church you are affiliated with, but God loves us all and I am wondering what church you are with and what doctrine you teach. Go, Texas teams!

The letter from the Rev. Thomas E. Sagendorf was by far the most hateful letter I have ever read in your newspaper.

Why did the editor allow such a hateful letter to be published?

And do you really think that Waco-area readers care what a person from Hamilton, Ind., believes?

With this kind of an attitude, Sagendorf should really be looking for another vocation.

This man is a preacher? Reading his diatribe makes one wonder if his doctrine is similar to the Rev. Jeremiah Wright.

I am stunned, to say the least, by the opinion of the Rev. Thomas E. Sagendorf. He insulted not only most Texans, but also engaged in Bush-bashing. You owe readers an apology.

The world is already full of hate, so why would our local newspaper print such trash from a man that signed the letter as a “Reverend”?’ There is enough hate in the world without a person claiming to be a man of God doing this.

I would think he needs to get on his knees and pray for these people instead of knocking them down. Who ordained him?

The Rev. Thomas E. Sagendorf’s letter about what it would be like if George W. Bush had been put in charge of the Cowboys was amusing. It got me to thinking how it would be if President Barack Obama was put in charge:

* He would never be at the games. He would be flying all over the country trying to make everybody still like him even though he was making the Cowboys worse.

* All his plays would be easy to defense because they would all go to the left.

* He would also use a teleprompter after games trying to explain how things looked great although they were losing every game.

* Nancy Pelosi could be offensive coordinator. Can anybody think of anybody being more offensive?

* But the main job would go to Bill Clinton. He would be put in charge of the cheerleaders.

 Jerry Willett, Lorena
