LETTERS: Our readers turn their sight on the congressional race

Vote for Bill Flores

As Nov. 2 draws near, I would strongly encourage voters to choose the candidates with a strong anti-abortion record. U.S. Rep. Chet Edwards claims to be against all abortions yet he never votes to support life. If he can’t even vote against partial birth abortions, then he obviously supports abortion rights. Why not be honest with his constituents?

Some things are more important than money, and Edwards has lost sight of what counts. I applaud his efforts to save the Veterans Affairs hospital in Waco, but I can’t vote for a man who votes so proudly with the liberals unless they have already secured enough votes to allow him to pretend to go against them.

If Congressman Edwards is anti-abortion, then where is the record?

If he is against gay marriage, then he should campaign against it.

And stop with the claim that Planned Parenthood actually prevents abortions. They performed more than 1,200 abortions last year.

About a week ago, a young man came to our door and asked if I was going to vote for Chet Edwards. I told him that I could not vote for Edwards because he supports abortion rights.

Edwards voted against the partial birth abortion ban when it came up for vote.  This is a most gruesome procedure.

I know that Edwards has done a lot for veterans. I am a veteran and so is my husband, but we cannot in good conscience vote for him.

Vote for Chet

I wonder how many people who voted for President Obama wish now they had studied this inexperienced man before casting their ballot. And I wonder if people will make a second major mistake and vote for GOP congressional candidate Bill Flores without studying his ideology.

Flores is a Republican who will assuredly back big business and promote less oversight. Free enterprise without moral attachment always fails.

If Chet Edwards wins reelection, I wonder how many people will be glad that they were wise enough to re-elect a moderate congressman with a history of creating and helping to create thousands of jobs for District 17.

Edwards is one of the most influential and powerful members of Congress. How many years would it take the inexperienced Flores to reach this level in Congress?

Flores has big oil interests in mind, and I doubt his obligation is to the people. It’s to big businesses first.

Bill Flores says Chet Edwards voted 96 percent of the time with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the president.

I can’t believe that no other member of Congress did not vote the same.
