LETTERS: One reader praises Baylor's selection of Ken Starr as president; others tout favorite candidates
Judging Judge Starr
I have heard and read the sour grapes from those who claim Judge Ken Starr to be divisive and destructive for our nation and a bad pick for Baylor University’s new president. To them, I say they’re the ones being divisive and destructive.
Starr was appointed as independent bipartisan counsel to investigate the scandal in the Clinton White House. It was expected he would be a lightning rod for criticism.
Would the accusations against Judge Starr have been any different had Eric Holder been appointed and produced similar findings?
Starr made the right call. It was just. It was demanded by law, and it was without prejudice on his part.
He is eminently qualified to preside over Baylor. It is my hope that students will benefit from his guidance and leadership. Good luck, President Starr.

I’ve been a friend of Ben Perry for 15 years. I know he’s a man of integrity and should be elected as McLennan County Commissioner, Precinct 4.
As a prominent businessman in Waco, Perry’s ethics and morals are balanced and show in his handling of pressure. He’s an outstanding father and husband. He is a boss who worked his way from the ground up and understands every aspect of several businesses. He’s even coached Little League softball and has led his team to the World Series.
We should embrace the determination and passion that Perry will bring.

Judge Debra Lehrmann has more than 20 years of judicial experience — nearly twice that of her opponents running for the Texas Supreme Court. She is an exceptionally well-qualified jurist who has consistently served the people of Texas with fairness and integrity.
She is a proven conservative who will not legislate from the bench but will strictly interpret the law. She has been a legal scholar and an active and award-winning leader in the legal community for years.

Dan MacLemore has the integrity, experience and attitude we need in our judges and should be elected as judge of McLennan County Court at Law No. 2 in the March 2 GOP primary.
I’ve known Dan for years, and I’m familiar with his professionalism and service to our community. I’ve watched him make legal arguments in county court and have witnessed his hard work on behalf of clients.
He’s a good person, a great attorney and will be a judge we can all be proud of.

Texas needs Bill White for governor. He is someone we can get behind and vote for, and not just vote against.
Party affiliation makes no difference in this election. White is a smart leader and a problem-solver, not influenced by the lobbyists.
