LETTERS: One of our readers thinks twice about actually swallowing health care reform legislation
My throat is OK, really it is
In John Cooper’s March 30 letter, he wrote that “Congress finally crammed their health care bill down our throats.” Concerned, I decided I’d best look. Standing in front of the mirror with flash light in hand and mouth opened wide I found no sign of the bill.
If it was there, it should have been easily spotted. I’ve seen it and it’s huge. So I’m safe, but I pray that anyone having this condition has insurance so he or she can have such a large bill removed quickly. It must be hard to swallow with it jammed in someone’s throat.
Then John Cooper said our Founding Fathers must be “turning over in their graves.” That’s really a creepy thought in a lot of ways. As for saying, “passage of this bill is not what they had in mind,” he is probably right. In their time heath insurance wasn’t an issue. In our Founding Fathers’ days, those who didn’t have money to pay doctors paid with a dozen eggs, a cooked meal or by repairing a carriage spoke.
Cooper also wrote, “I pray that America will return to its Christian roots, that God will bless our country again.” But I haven’t found where God stopped blessing anyone, or any group of people. Must be as Jesus said: “According to your belief will it be done to you.”

This could be my final letter
In light of the Obama administration’s path of socialism, on which America is quickly being forced, I would like to take this opportunity — while I’m still entitled to freedom of speech — to thank the Waco Tribune-Herald for the opportunity that I and others who have contributed through the years have been afforded through the publishing of our letters to the editor.
Although some of my letters don’t reach print exactly as written, and regardless of the diversity of opinions shared by those of us submitting letters, the privilege of having been given the opportunity to express our views is very much appreciated.
This is especially true now that there’s no way of knowing how much longer we’ll be allowed to continue to enjoy many of the rights to which we’re accustomed and which I have been blessed to have lived for all of my 60 years.
I’m constantly approached by people who tell me how much they enjoy my letters. They express their gratitude and admiration to me for having the nerve to put what they feel into words. Sadly, what I’m hearing more and more through these encounters, especially as of late, is an overall feeling of helplessness and hopelessness, and a struggle to understand why those we trusted and put in control of our country’s welfare are so intent on seeing us become a third world nation.
I wish I had an answer, or at least a ray of hope to offer those who follow my letters, but I do not. The only solution I can see for the problem is to make sure we’re “all prayed-up” for when God decides that He’s finally had enough of all that’s going on.

Vote for Rob Curnock
Republican voters have an opportunity to take a big step toward electing a true, solid conservative to represent District 17 in Congress by electing Rob Curnock.
Curnock has shown that he has the strong credentials of honesty and determination to defeat both his opponent in the April 13 runoff election and to defeat U.S. Rep. Chet Edwards, D-Waco, in November.
He has established himself as a dependable voice for conservative values.
He has been campaign-tested. He is not a “Johnny come lately” candidate following last-minute whims in his residency and decision to run for office. His devotion to this district has been constant.
Vote for Curnock — a man who knows you, believes in you and will represent you well in Washington.

Are we still ‘We the People?’
Ronald Reagan was the greatest president of our time. He truly believed in three little words: “We the people.” As he said in his farewell speech on Jan. 11, 1989, “‘We the people’ tell the government what to do, it doesn’t tell us. ‘We the people’ are the driver, the government is the car. And we decide where it should go, and by what route, and how fast. Almost all the world’s constitutions are documents in which governments tell the people what their privileges are. Our Constitution is a document in which ‘We the people’ tell the government what it is allowed to do.”
What happened to “We the people” in the passing of the health care bill? “We the people” spoke loud and clear that we did not want a government run health care system, yet it was forced upon us and touted as a victory for the American people. It was a victory for the personal agenda of President Obama. President Obama, you sir, are no Ronald Reagan.

Go Lady Bears!
Considering the recent question of what to call the Baylor women’s basketball team, how about: “She-Bears,” as in She Who Must Be Obeyed!
Bravo, ladies. You bring glory to Waco, Baylor and yourselves.
