Political endorsements

Concerned Texans in Congressional District 17 should vote for Timothy Delasandro for Congress in the Republican primary.

We must put an end to the insane spending in Washington. We the people must take back control of our government, and we must do it in the 2010 elections.

Our country cannot afford three more years like 2009. We must elect fiscally conservative representatives. We must remove liberal progressives from control of Congress and replace them with true conservatives.

Delasandro will not act like a career politician. He is a regular guy who has a good job and a reasonable mortgage. He is a Christian husband and father, a U.S. Navy veteran and a Texas Aggie.

If we do not get our government off its tax-and-spend mentality, our economy and unemployment situation will never recover.

In the race for McLennan County Commissioner Precinct 4, experience should prevail over change. Ray Meadows has devoted the past 23 years to making McLennan County a better place to live and work.

Meadows has supervised the paving of numerous county roads and initiated several bridge projects, like the new Ritchie Road bridge. He also helped found the county’s DARE program, which is geared toward educating youth about living drug-free and violence-free. He’s served on the Cameron Park Zoo Commission and the boards of Texas State Technical College, Heart O’ Texas Fair and Keep Waco Beautiful.

Experience is what our county needs right now.

I had the pleasure of serving on the Midway Little League Executive Board with Ben Perry for several years. During that time, Perry always proved himself to be a person of the utmost character and integrity. His decision-making was based on intelligent and thorough study of all sides of an issue.

I know Perry will bring the same manner of sound decision-making practices to the commissioners court, which needs some new faces and new ideas.

Fear Baylor’s future

I am a proud graduate of Baylor University, a member of the Baylor Alumni Association and a fan of our Lady Bears. But I also fear for Baylor’s future. While the selection of Ken Starr as president delights many fans to the right, I fear fundamentalism is creeping into the university.

May God help us all.

Spanking not wrong

In response to the arrest of La Vega Elementary School principal Chris Borland, 37, this month on a charge of injury to a child stemming from an alleged school paddling, I want to say that I do not think the principal was wrong. I don’t think he injured the student. The child’s family should leave Borland alone. He would not hurt any child. I would trust him with my own child.

Children nowadays are getting away with too much. Someone needs to correct them when they’re young.
