LETTERS: More on Doc, Matt Baker, President Obama and gays in the military
‘Doc’ is dedicated to voters
I am not a friend of the local Republican Party co-chairman, nor am I a personal friend of state Rep. Charles “Doc” Anderson. I am, however, a supporter of Anderson because he has sacrificed nearly everything he has to represent the voters of his district. He is a perfect example of politics being a rich man’s game.
I hope he can resolve the tax situation and get re-elected. For his dedicated service, he deserves better than he is getting.

Sizing up Doc, Matt Baker
State Rep. Charles “Doc” Anderson’s tax problems seem to be a continuous one rather than an accidental or incidental one. That’s my opinion.
In any case, he needs Jim Fitzhugh as his spokesman. Judging from his Jan. 26 letter questioning the jury verdict on Matt Baker, Fitzhugh already has determined a jury system is not needed.
Since I’m sure he sat in during all testimony and jury deliberations during the Baker trial and since he did not like the appearance of Baker’s mother-in-law, this makes him totally capable of passing judgment and bypassing due process.
I noticed in another letter from Fitzhugh that he also passed judgment on the Texas UIL. I guess he is better suited to determine how schools should be redistricted.
But then is there anything Fitzhugh cannot comment on, pass judgment on or be more authoritative about?

Where are these values, again?
“I know his skill. I know his passion. I know his strength. I know his conscience. I know his faith. He has honored the lessons of home and family that he learned in North Carolina, and he brings those values to shape a better America together with all of us.”

Obama’s overrated oratory
Regarding Oscar Holgerson’s Feb. 4 letter about Barack Obama’s oration skills: While I, too, am often embarrassed by the content of Obama’s speeches, I try to remember that he does not write them. He also is teleprompter-dependent and is just reading the agendas of those who helped to put him into office.
I personally find his voice to be extremely monotone, and his clipped, emotionless delivery makes him come across as detached and arrogant. In fact, he is one of the most boring speakers that I have ever heard.

Can’t fathom gays in military
As an old destroyer sailor, I have a hard time comprehending why our leaders are so obsessed with allowing gays to serve openly in the military.
I am not homophobic and could not care less if gays lived next door to me. I would, however, have a huge problem with being told I must shower with them. Why not at the same time decree that women in the military must shower with men? Is there really that much difference?
It is absolutely not about gays having the “right” to serve their country. We do not allow persons who are allergic to bee stings, or overweight or underweight, to serve in the military, either.
When will political correctness stop hurting this country? I suspect never.

How about good grades?
There is much excitement lately over football signings, playoffs and UIL realignment. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if as much excitement was generated among parents and the media over our children being good kids and making good grades?

Too easy for the unemployed
Are you listening to the news about unemployment? It seems that several million have decided to drop out of the workforce. Have you ever wondered why this decision would make sense?
Huge numbers of the workforce have minimal qualifications for jobs that increasingly demand technical skills. They cannot find work that will exceed or even match in earnings what they get when unemployed.
While the American people would not tolerate just cutting them off with no benefits, the solution of the current administration seems to be to throw billions more dollars at the problem and create temporary relief, with huge bills to come due in the future.
When one party has absolute control, it puts its philosophy into practice, as is now happening at the federal level. Think about how long it will take to undo the actions of our current administration.

Student asks for Texas material
I am a fifth-grader at Napa Valley Language Academy in Napa, Calif. My class is doing reports on states, and I have chosen your great state of Texas to learn about.
Would readers please send me pamphlets, postcards or information on Texas that would be beneficial to my report?
I will be writing about Texas’ agriculture, history, economy, famous people, events, historical figures and parks. I also will be doing an oral report, poster and computer power-point presentation.
Thank you for your help and support in making me a great researcher of your outstanding state. My school’s address is 2700 Kilburn Ave., Napa, Calif. 94558.
