Lorena post office

I have heard that the management of the U.S. Postal Service has been quietly planning to move the clerks and carriers out of the Lorena post office to Hewitt and other local post offices.

If this happens, mail would be delivered out of Hewitt and special items would have to be picked up in Hewitt. This could mean delays and extra trips for Lorena residents.

On top of that, the postal service would have an almost empty building that they will still owe rent on for about 13 years. When they opened the “new” Lorena post office in 2002, they still owed almost three years rent on the old building, which is now a Sonic.

If true, does the post office think this a way to save taxpayer money?

Lorena will soon be growing again with the expansion of Interstate 35 and the new sewer plant. But will we have a post office while other towns smaller in size still do?

Lorena citizens need to call their lawmakers to put a stop to this stupidity.

Halt spending sprees

I wish our leaders in Washington — Republicans and Democrats alike — believed in free enterprise, not socialism.

For years, the Republicans in Congress tried to out-Democrat the Democrats in spending before finally losing control of Congress. Now the Democrats are really showing us how to spend this nation into bankruptcy.

I believe we need change. Vote them all out!

Blind driver

Just what does Trena Evette Mitchell’s family think would have been fair and just during her recent sentencing and conviction for driving blind and killing a Waco motorcyclist?

Did they think she would have walked with probation?

She already had two tickets for driving without a license. She knew she was not supposed to have been driving. Period.

And if she is so blind, then why wasn’t she wearing her $1,200 corrective glasses?

Wrong is wrong, regardless of what race you are. How dare her family claim racism in this case.

Out of work

I’m out of work, out of unemployment benefits and out of money. If I walked 2.5 miles to Gary Payne’s place of business in hopes of a job and encountered his “not hiring” sign at Brazos Feed & Supply, would I not have tried to find work?

Letter rebuttal

Mike Brown, thank you for your thoughtful response of Aug. 21 [‘Unfair comparison’] to my Aug. 10 letter.

You call me divisive? How about a president who has perfected the tactical use of race, religion and class to further divide this country?

On second thought, you may be right. King George III merely wanted to control and rule his subjects. The similarities end there.
