LETTERS: Final thoughts on the Lady Bears and some concerns about Big Oil
Outstanding Bears
I wrote at the beginning of this season that if we could fill the Ferrell Center and sustain a terrific atmosphere throughout the season, then our Lady Bears would feed off the energy of our fans and would go deep into the conference and the NCAA tournament. And they did just that.
Lady Bears: You have been outstanding! During several games, we have witnessed fantastic athletics. From Brittney Griner’s blocks and shooting, to Brooklyn Pope’s determination with shots and blocks, to Odyssey Sims’ point defense and shooting, to Destiny Williams’ steady offensive boards and put- backs and Melissa Jones’ all-around skills, it’s been a great season.
Fans: You should also accept a pat on the back for cheering them on with such gusto this past season.
At recent home games, the atmosphere has been electrifying with each shot, block, steal and terrific defense and hustle. Those in the stands were always waiting with great anticipation of every play to respond with cheers and clapping while standing the majority of the game.
During a recent game at the Ferrell Center, I had the honor of sitting beside an 87-year-old fan. She told me she had been a season ticket holder for the past 15 years and had gone to the Final Four in 2005. Also near us were a couple from Katy who had driven up for last Sunday’s game in Waco and had tickets to Tuesday’s game in Dallas. We also had tickets to Tuesday’s game. It was a disappointing ending, but we’re still proud our your season. Sic ’em, Bears!

I’m so proud of the Baylor Lady Bears having gone so far in the tournament as to compete in Dallas on Tuesday in the Elite 8.
I’m sad that now the season is over and Melissa Jones will be graduating this year and leaving Baylor University and Waco.
Wouldn’t it be nice if Baylor offered Melissa a job on the Lady Bears staff as Coach Kim Mulkey’s assistant? Then she wouldn’t have to leave Baylor and Waco, and she would be such a great asset to the team and Waco. It is such a joy to watch her play basketball. I personally love watching her play, and you know how much she enjoys playing for Baylor. So, Baylor, how about it? We might just win more games and championships then.
Thank you, Melissa, for being a Baylor Lady Bear and being such a great inspiration and delight to watch the past four years. I wish you all the best in the coming years always. Thank you for being the glue.

Help us, big oil
Our government can spend billions of taxpayer dollars to bail out the mortgage companies and auto industries. We foot the bill to pay for unending wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. We help every country that seems to need our assistance.
But as we are recovering from one of our nation’s worst fiscal crises, can we stand by and let the big oil companies gouge more life out of us? It seems like the oil companies run this country.
When do we get help?
