EDITORIAL: W.'s humor intact
His White House tenure is among the most controversial, even for Texas conservatives. Yet allow us to add applause for former President George W. Bush and wife Laura, honored Tuesday at the Texas Independence Day Dinner at Austin’s Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum, named for the Democratic powerhouse with whom Bush so successfully partnered as our governor.
Judging from the first lady’s comments, it seems the former president continues to favor his ranch west of Crawford, even as the couple spend much time in Dallas’ upscale Preston Hollow.
The president himself told of having to assume such basic duties as walking the dog while wearing a plastic glove so he could gingerly pick up what he’d been dodging during eight long years in Washington.
Whatever the criticism, the Bush sense of humor is alive and well.
