EDITORIAL: Welcome, athletes!
This may not be quite the same as the London Olympics of 2012, but we nonetheless welcome 2010 Games of Texas athletes here this weekend with the same pomp and fanfare.
About 10,000 athletes, families and coaches are expected to descend upon Central Texas starting today for a weekend of sports events including archery, boxing, disc golf, fencing, golf, lifeguarding, softball, swimming, table tennis, tennis and track and field.
This is the sixth time the city of Waco has played host to the Games, which are sponsored by the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation. The Olympic-style event — the largest multi-sport festival in the state recognized by the U.S. Olympic Committee since 1992 — includes an athlete parade downtown and fireworks at Indian Spring Park Friday night.
Come out and watch the events and support our community’s pride as host.
