EDITORIAL: Very Special Olympics
It’s always heartening to hear of those reaching out to those not necessarily able to help themselves.
So we are especially humbled to learn that local volunteers have formed a new delegation to host Special Olympic training and competition here in Waco.
The Lone Star Warriors Delegation is open to all with mental disabilities ages 8 and older from Bell, Bosque, Coryell, Falls, Freestone, Hamilton, Hill, Lampasas, Limestone, McLennan, Mills and Navarro counties.
Delegation head Melinda Bell is lining up coaches, volunteers and sponsors for bowling and basketball leagues and has high hopes to offer track and aquatics.
Waco and Midway ISD have Special Olympic delegations for their students. This gives students in other districts (and adults) a chance to also train and compete. That’s special.
To help or join, contact Bell at m-bell@live.com.
