EDITORIAL: Trying to keep it local
The wisdom demonstrated by Central Texas voters who agreed to fund public improvements throughout our region can only be underscored by the wisdom of government entities thinking local when awarding public works contracts.
That was on display this week when the Waco City Council voted to award Don Jackson Construction of Riesel a $281,565 bid to renovate Cameron Park.
Then the council took it a step further by voting to use a “competitive sealed proposal” to choose a contractor for upgrades at Knox Hall Texas Rangers Memorial Center.
This sealed proposal gives weight in the consideration process to local contractors.
We understand the need for fiscal prudence on all public works projects. But we are heartened that the council understands the importance and the impact of using local contractors for its public works jobs.
