EDITORIAL: Remembering Farrah
We usually avoid piling on the sins committed at the annual Academy Awards ceremony, but count us among those surprised to see Texas icon Farrah Fawcett excluded from the long list of late actors, directors and writers memorialized at Sunday night’s show.
Just as Fawcett had trouble gaining respect in life, so she was forgotten by peers in death during the awards show’s memorial montage. While we can agree to disagree about whether Michael Jackson rated involvement — he was included, though he had little to do with the movie business — Fawcett was one of the most exciting prospects in films during the 1970s and 1980s.
Her career never lived up to the sensation she caused on TV’s “Charlie’s Angels,” but she lives in our hearts, a symbol of good times in Texas and the charm that its finest representatives can evoke.
