EDITORIAL: Powering change
One of our faithful readers registered slight discomfort reading about chicken guts and lake scum over her morning oatmeal, but no one’s stomach should churn over the fact that the Waco Metropolitan Area Regional Sewer System continues to make important strides in what is fast evolving into a “green” society here in Waco.
That means it’s taking in more waste, even from afar, and producing renewable energy in the bargain, enough to even cover plant energy expenses.
The $10.1 million expansion under way will speed up the sewer plant’s award-winning sludge-to-methane process. WMARSS Superintendent Mike Jupe aims high, too. His goal is to offset the sewer system’s entire energy costs at some point in the near future.
Glamorous? Maybe not. But who wouldn’t celebrate a bright future that counts so wonderfully on what we all leave behind?
