EDITORIAL: Hutchison staying
Yes, U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison clearly flip-flopped. On Wednesday, she revealed that, despite her vow as a gubernatorial candidate just a few months ago, she would be staying in the Senate.
Considering her rich experience, the faith many local Republicans tell us they have in her moderate course as a senator, plus the fact even Gov. Rick Perry wants her to stay, we’re happy with the decision. Voters who want a chance to say yea or nay about her seat will have a chance soon enough.
As it is, we in Central Texas have enough electoral matters to decide — an April 13 runoff between Republicans vying to run for Congress, city and school elections May 8, plus a special election to replace state Sen. Kip Averitt. And there are more races to be decided come fall.
That’s more than enough electoral business for we the voters to chew on.
