EDITORIAL: Everlasting gift

Today’s Old Main Society Luncheon at Baylor University may be the hottest ticket in town. The luncheon, honoring major estate donors, could have folks craning their necks and whispering about who among them might be the donor of a whopping $200 million estate gift to Baylor announced this week.

The gift ranks as the second-largest to a Texas university or college, we’re told, and is among the top 20 gifts to institutions of higher learning anywhere in the land. It is to be directed toward medical research in Baylor’s College of Arts and Sciences, School of Social Work and other university programs.

Mark it down as another unique, everlasting blessing, sure to shape Baylor’s future and the public good, particularly in the wake of last year’s announcement of the Baylor Research and Innovation Collaborative.

Now, if we only knew just who to thank for this.
