EDITORIAL: Caretaking campers are most welcome in Waco
In today’s tough financial times, it’s great when one can scratch another’s back without money necessarily changing hands.
A sterling example is the reciprocation by some campers who volunteer to work our local parks in exchange for free hookups on their recreation vehicles.
This doesn’t just happen here. Kampgrounds of America Inc. says 80,000 volunteers might be keeping watch on our nation’s parks at any given time.
This week the Trib featured Dick and Ann Wilcox, who park their RV at Lake Waco parks like Bosque Park, Koehne Park and Airport Park. These caretaking campers open the gates, answer office phones and keep an eye out for trouble. They even called authorities on a rabid dog recently.
We’re grateful for these park helpers and hope they continue their great work while enjoying the great Texas outdoors.
