Debate over president’s religion

It was with great optimism that I read that the Tribune-Herald had been purchased by the Robinson family. My first thoughts were “at last a Christian newspaper.” But as time has gone on, I see more and more of the same old tired, liberal articles. Case in point, the paper recently ran an article without quoting any proof that President Barack Obama is a natural-born U.S. citizen. The same week the paper ran an article saying Obama is a Christian because he prays. What drivel. Who is he praying to? Do you really know?

Do not judge whether a person is a Christian by what he says but by his actions. Neither the president’s actions nor the things he supports would give any thinking person the idea he is a Christian.

Scripture says “By their fruits you shall know them.” America is going to be eating the bitter fruit of the Obama nation for many years to come and it is going to be our children and grandchildren who will pay the price. If you care, look up the word abomination in the New Testament.

Obama could put all this to rest if he would show where he was baptized in the name of Jesus. Also, I and many people do not believe he is a U.S. citizen. So why doesn’t Congress make him produce documents to prove these two things?

This would put a stop to all the people who have doubts about him being a U.S. citizen and a Christian.

I wish next time U.S. Rep. Chet Edwards is at the White House he would get me a copy of these facts.

As an American, Rita Jones’ Aug. 2 letter bothered me. Why should how the president of the United States spent his Christmas or what religious service he and his family attended worry anyone? That’s his private business. I question where Ms. Jones obtained her statistics indicating more citizens think President Obama is a Muslim. I thought that ridiculous assumption was a moot point.

Baylor season tickets

I have been a season ticket-holder for Baylor football in the past, but the last few years I declined the offer for several reasons, among them the seeming indifference of the ticket office toward my loyalty. This year I decided to bite the bullet once more and, boy, was I surprised.

Shortly after my tickets arrived I received another envelope from the Baylor ticket office with several items of appreciation enclosed. It’s as if they were actually thankful I had purchased their products.

If this is to be their attitude in the future and if Coach Briles and staff can put a quality product on the field, Baylor can expect my future ticket business.

Dangerous road construction

The road construction on Bagby Avenue between Waco and Hewitt is lacking any form of safety for motorists.

* The speed limit is not reduced for the work area and is still 60 mph.

* There are no flaggers to stop or warn motorists when construction vehicles are entering the right-of-way or crossing the right-of-way.

* Construction barrels are placed in the roadway, causing traffic to cross into oncoming lanes of traffic

* Crossroads are arbitrarily closed with no warning, even as traffic is turning into Sendero Springs.

* Water trucks cross in front of traffic with no warning to motorists.

I have advised the Texas Department of Transportation of these safety problems. I have even told the construction company to supply flaggers but they have done nothing. TXDOT: Please get this under control.

Turn the music down, managers

Restaurant managers who play background music, please read this:

My friends and I really enjoy eating out in Waco. But when we go out to eat we enjoy visiting with each other. However, it is getting difficult to find a restaurant where the “background” music isn’t so loud that you can talk with your friends!

I am not talking about sports bars or bars, I am talking about family restaurants. Many of these restaurants have delicious food but if you can’t hear one another talk, then why go there?

Managers, please turn it down or, better yet, turn it off. Fellow Wacoans, if you agree with me, let those restaurants know.

Dance of the hummingbirds

We are enjoying such an amazing sight. It looks like bees swarming round a nest. But upon closer inspection, you can notice seven or eight hummingbirds all trying to eat at the same feeder right outside our kitchen window.

They have been entertaining us for a week now. When all four feeding spots have been filled, three or four more birds hover around until they decide to dive at the feeding birds and drive them away so they can eat, too. Recently I saw one bird feeding and another bird was hovering above it trying to share the same spot.

We have so many hummingbirds now because the larger ones are migrating from farther north on their way to Mexico. While they are here, I will sit by my window and enjoy their antics and God’s wonderful world.
