I like sizzling meat on the grill. Wild, huh? Anybody? Now, we all know ol' Nuge isn't by any stretch of the imagination a weirdo when it comes to an omnivorous diet.
RECENT COLUMNS BY THE TEXAS WILDMAN
- 05-04-08 Ted Nugent: Grilling wild game isn't just sensual, it's spiritual
- 04-27-08 Ted Nugent: A woman's place? On bowhunt, at gun range
- 04-20-08 Ted Nugent: Stupid choices are central to health-care crisis
- 04-13-08 Ted Nugent: 'Beer for My Horses,' the movie, and Nuge, big-screen cut-up
- 04-06-08 Ted Nugent: Great food in Waco? I'm telling you
Especially here in the great Republic of Texas, a smiling, drooling preference for succulent, protein-rich, nutritious backstrap over aromatic mesquite coals is as American and natural and right as Mom, apple pie and the flag. It's beautiful, really.
But a culture war rages against such universal, self-evident truths. It would be laughable if it were not so deranged. Some weirdos actually are on a crusade to outlaw the consumption of flesh.
I have musical touring associates who have been fired from their jobs with ex-Beatle Paul McCartney for sneaking a hamburger.
You heard that right. Fired for eating meat by an animal-rights maniac, hard-core vegan bass player.
The entire agenda of the gazillion-dollar-financed joke known as PETA literally is dedicated to outlawing meat.
Neither I, nor any hunter or meat eater on the planet, has any desire whatsoever to influence any vegetarian's choice of diet or to force them to eat meat. We are the friendly, tolerant Americans.
This is but one of many issues that represent the line drawn in the sand between liberals and conservatives.
Our own intrepid opinion editor at the Trib, my friend John Young, doesn't want to simply make the choice to be unarmed and helpless for himself. He has again recently insisted that you and I must also comply with his soulless condition of unarmed helplessness in "gun-free zones."
Nobody from our side wants to force anybody to have a gun or defend themselves. It is us, the conservatives, who are for individual choice.
Taxation, confiscation
As for the American left: One hears the words of Mao Tse-Tung come broiling out of the mouths of its heroes, when Ted Kennedy and Hillary Clinton et al unflinchingly push for "redistribution of wealth."
Central Texas' own Chet Edwards has the audacity to support taxing the after-tax life savings of American families following the death of a loved one.
The unfair, un-American, unconstitutional death tax literally destroys mom-and-pop businesses across the land. Think about it.
The wall that once symbolized communism is down, yet some still want to give it a shot. Dear God in heaven, help us.
Recently, Danny Glover, an otherwise fine actor, embarrassingly abused his uniquely American freedoms by siding with the communist Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez to finance what clearly appears to be an anti-American propaganda film. Nice.
Meanwhile, right there in that communist country, old Hugo is shutting down an entire media network for daring to challenge his heavy handed, corrupt, dictatorial policies.
This is a leader who has proudly sided with terrorist support groups, and Danny Glover gives him a big hug.
If a Venezuelan citizen were to do so with President Bush, I am confident that Chavez would not respect that individual's right to free expression.
Venezuela gives its citizens no right to free expression. Glover must be blinded by the trees in that forest.
Examine the agendas of the liberal "party of peace." Its members clearly don't believe you and I are smart enough or capable of making our own choices in life.
While conservatives "live and let live," the left arrogantly thinks it knows better than we do and will burden "we the people" with more government control until we are taxed to death.
Watch them. Listen, pay attention and blow whistles.
Educate your family, neighbors, friends, co-workers and hunting buddies on how dangerous such control is against the American Dream of individual pursuit of happiness.
Throw off the shackles of government-run slavery. Stand up for individual independence. Enough is enough.
Hey, Hugo and Hillary, leave me alone.
Ted Nugent is a Waco-based musician and television show host.

Not all vegans are weirdos. Some go to extremes - I disapprove of McCartney's decision. I do not crusade to outlaw meat. I crusade to convince people it is wrong. Wrong because taking animals lives just because it tastes good is not our decision to make. But people choose to do it anyway. When people quit being selfish, they quit eating meat.

As for the clown from another country who says Americans are getting their asses handed to them by a third world country? Huh?
Are you for real?We can end this war in 2 weeks.I don't know what country you are from, but I bet dollars to donuts(American expression) that your country owes some of its' success to the USA.
The USA is the #1 economic, military, freedom promoting machine in the history of the World.
Do you honetsly, politely think you can dispute that?
I actually know Ted.He is so on the money, and makes so much sense that many people can't believe it.He cuts through the crap and tells it like it is.A man of conviction, logic and common sense. It is frankly refreshing to hear him talk.

Mike B,
For one thing as far as music goes, even leftists recognize Ted's exceptional guitar playing ability(#49 on Rolling Stones all time I believe and they hate him)
As for gun rights and meat eating-Question:
Why would any logical American be willing to give up a right?
Also if I worked for Paul M. and he fired me for eating a hamburger I would be shocked and dismayed as that is absurd.
Think about what Ted does-He goes out and defends American's rights for the 2nd Ammendment. What could ever be wrong with that?

Why does anyone get upset that rock stars have differing opinions? If suddenly you were famous, would that STOP you from having your own opinions about anything? If someone stuck a mike in your face right now, and you gave your opinion on, I dunno, working conditions in copper mines, does this mean you believe you are smarter than everyone else, or does it just mean you were asked your opinion and gave it? I think McCartney's vegetarian bit to be laughably naive. Almost as naive as Nugent's embrace of right wing hatred and cruelty as some kind of fix for the world's problems. Too much violence? Need more guns. People starving? Need more guns. Completely and utter ignorance of the whole world outside your little borders, America? More guns. Extreme conceit about how God loves your little country more than the whole rest of the world? More guns. Blat on about 'libruls', call them every name in the book, attack them personally on every level, and then have the gall to call them 'haters'. This from someone who has to lie and say he never did drugs (anyone who saw Ted wired up in the early 70s just shakes their head when they hear this) and preaches family values (a near fetish for underage sex, and cheated on his wife RECENTLY - nice).

Well said, Nuge. As derogatory as these loony leftards replying may be, they don't seem to have any genuine argument for Saint Chavez's suppresion of free speech, nor anything legitimately compelling in their aversion to the Constitutional right to own and operate firearms, except to say it's dangerous. Hey! Driving on the freeway is dangerous, but why don't the cops impound cars that were in attendance during a high-speed chase? All those other motorists could pose a danger too!

Apparently your education system of choice has failed you. Please take some extra English and grammar lessons before typing in a public place and embarrassing yourself.

You say in your introduction that "it is...the conservatives, who are for individual choice, as they "are the friendly, tolerant Americans." However, the two examples you give (Granting assumed liberals the 'right' to not eat meat or not carry guns) are, perhaps unsurprisingly, directly to the benefit of conservatives. Were the issues in question abortion or gay rights, you might find conservatives a bit less forgiving to the other side of the argument. However, in those cases, those crazy liberals would neither be forcing you to have abortions or to fall in love with members of your own gender. Go fig.

Hey Ted,
I'm from Brazil and I'd say it's tough to be a conservative in this country. Not a long, we had to decide, by voting, if guns would be outlawed or not (by the way, we won, guns are not outlawed, although it extremely difficult to get a license to carry a gun). It's one's decision to bare a gun or not. The same goes to the vegetarians: if they think they shouldn't eat meat, they don't eat it. Now please, let me eat my beef.
As for Chavez, this man is a tyrant. Actually, the whole South America is drowned into this Red talk, supporting Chavez and his Castro-like attitudes. Sad.

Ted, I am a Canadian and we have the same issues here with our politcal lefties, the Liberals, the NDP and the Bloc Quebec ( which is a party wanting soverienty from Canada but still have a voice and political power on Canada's national issues). Our country is going to hell in a handbasket. Keep up the good work until the lefties remove your freedom of speech.
