Misguided suit
I’m appalled at the lawsuit filed against Starplex Galaxy 16 theater and the owners of the property by the parents of the young boy killed while “surfing” on the top of a moving vehicle driven by another young boy [“Family sues in teen’s car-surfing death,” June 19].
I just wonder: Had the boys been to the movie prior to their daredevil tactics? Where were the parents at this time of night? Why weren’t these boys at home at this time of night? Why was a 15-year-old driving a car?
It is not the responsibility of companies to take care of our children just because we as parents abdicate that responsibility.
I raised five children, and they were not allowed to be out without adult supervision at midnight. These parents need to admit that, ultimately, they’re the ones at fault, and they must deal with it.
I know I can’t imagine the pain they feel over the loss of their child. I also know that the young man who was driving will probably always suffer from knowing that he was responsible for the boy’s death. However, he needs to know that his friend was also responsible for doing something very foolish that he paid for with his life.

EDITOR’S NOTE: The parents of 13-year-old Keon Talton, killed two years ago while “car surfing” in the parking lot of a Waco movie theater about midnight, have filed a lawsuit against the theater complex, its landlord, the teenage driver and the owners of the vehicle.
Unhealthy aliens
I’m sick of hearing this refrain: We are in crisis and must act now or the world will end!
And, yet, much of our crisis is created by our government. We spend $500 billion a year for services for illegal aliens. Pass a law that when you apply for any civil service, you have to prove you are a legal American citizen. If you are not a legal American citizen, then it is “pay as you go.”
Most illegal aliens work for cash and don’t pay taxes. Social Security, Medicaid and Medicare were created by Americans for Americans and are sustained by American taxpayers.
Nancy Pelosi, it is not honorable to come into our country and steal from our citizens. Do your job. E-Verify and close our borders.

EDITOR’S NOTE: The Pew Hispanic Center estimates that 59 percent of the nation’s illegal immigrants are uninsured, compared with 25 percent of legal immigrants and 14 percent of U.S. citizens.
Smoke in his eyes
My goodness! President Barack Obama is still smoking cigarettes. Let us oust him from office. The Man of Change is not changing.
Instead of quitting, he signs into law a bill giving the Food and Drug Administration stricter control over the tobacco industry. Now if someone asks me about smoking, I say, “Fire ’em up because driving your vehicle is more dangerous.”
So many folks love to make negative comments to smokers. Yet simply making such comments shows that their noses need to stay out of my cigarette pack and they need to go home.
Secondhand smoke? What about secondhand death by road accident?
