We thought an utterly self-centered amendment slipped into the Texas Open Beaches Act was so crooked there was no doubt of Gov. Rick Perry’s veto.
Wrong. We should have editorialized about it because the governor allowed to pass into law a bill that includes an odious provision written by state Rep. Wayne Christian, R-Center. It allows Christian and several of his neighbors to rebuild their Hurricane Ike-destroyed homes on what’s left of Bolivar Peninsula but denies others the same privilege.
Perry should have vetoed this bill and sent it back to the Legislature to redo during special session, if only to make an example of lawmakers like Christian.
Texas Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson vows that, under his oversight, Christian won’t get his beachfront vacation house, regardless of this law.
Fine. Even so, we’d feel better if lawmakers put all that in writing.

I will be making sure to wake up early on voting day to get my vote in for Mr. Patterson. Keep it up! It is awesome to have someone that stands up for what is RIGHT!
I wish "lawmakers" like Christian would be voted out of office!
