Keep dollars in USA
I always thought fishing persons were smarter than most. I have changed my mind.
Until recently all of the outboard motors I saw were made in the USA. However, all of a sudden Yamahas are showing up in large numbers.
You fishing persons don’t understand what you are doing. You are paying a little less money up front, but on the back you are sending tons of money overseas.
You evidently don’t understand what “trade deficit” means or how much money the United States owes foreign countries.
I predict that in the not-too-distant future, USA-made outboard motors will cease to exist, along with the companies that make them. All of us will be paying a lot more for worker’s compensation, and you fishing persons will be part of the cause and not even understand why.

Tanner’s trip to Baylor
My daughter, Deborah Wasson of Longview, recently was in Waco along with friends and their 6-year-old daughter. Being a Baylor graduate, she wanted to share Baylor with the young lady.
Aunt Deb took Tanner down by the creek on campus, where leaves were vigorously launched into the stream and their progress dutifully noted. Then the two took a trip by the Bear pit, the Browning Library, Pat Neff Hall and Judge Baylor’s statue. It was just a perfect day — gorgeous sun, quiet and peaceful.
Tanner suddenly looked up at her Aunt Deb and said, “Aunt Deb, it feels like God’s here.”
Baylor must be doing something right.

Jesus at door
An old gentleman told me that he dreamed Jesus decided to visit some churches and just sit quietly, unrecognized, in the back of the congregation.
In each visit, Jesus wanted to see whether the preacher was preaching the Gospel.
Unfortunately, Jesus was running a little late due to traffic. When he arrived at one church, the door was locked due security concerns.
He just turned away, shook his head and returned to his heavenly throne.
He missed a pretty good sermon, too.

Obama’s turn
Poor Barbara Collier. She’s already sick and tired of letters “bashing” the president-elect [Letters, Nov. 25].
Ms. Collier, you and many others have spent the last eight years bashing the president because he didn’t do things your way.
You might as well settle in for many letters scolding the new president if he attempts to carry out all the outlandish campaign promises he made.

Someone else’s money
I cannot help but wonder how A.B. Lehman [Letters, Nov. 18] would feel about the sentence for [former Downtown Waco Inc. executive director] Margaret Mills had the $500,000 she stole been taken from a business he owned.

Sweet potato standard
If John Young can be so wrong about sweet potatoes [Nov. 27], how can anyone believe that he can be right about anything else?
