Green Mountain Energy, Texas’ only energy company that is solely devoted to green energy, announced that it will donate 48 solar panels to the Greater Waco Chamber of Commerce’s new headquarters at Third Street and Heritage Square downtown.
The “solar array” gift will meet 6.5 percent of the 14,000-square-foot building’s annual energy needs without producing a speck of pollution.
Chamber officials received the gift due to their efforts to emphasize environmentally responsible building techniques on their new headquarters.
Waco is in the position to brand itself as a green city, which would boost the city’s image and improve economic development opportunities.
Green Mountain’s gift to the chamber helps.

Fred, you don't need to retell this news on every comment site in the Waco Trib. We all know about the event and are saddened and angered by it. If you spent a fraction of your time doing something positive, like identifying a project and the sources of grant money for it, I am willing to help put together an application (I have been 100% successful in the past). One thing we need is a foot bridge over E. Waco Drive near Wiley. Why don't you find out how the others in town were funded and see what it takes to apply and then get in touch with me through Carol. Then we can do something positive.
I also think we should be working on getting the old grainery site cleaned up and something positive there, including another through street, and to see what can be done along Elm with the property owners there to make that a vibrant area for commerce again. Identifying the ownership and status of each of the properties involved would help a great deal.

The Fancy Million-dollar new Greater Waco Chamber of Commerce Building may be "going green" but East Waco is flowing Red with the spilling of blood of East Waco's lastest MURDER victim....an East Waco businessman shot to death in front of his own business. After being shot in the chest, the poor businessman stumpled out into the middle of East Waco Drive and fell onto the Median. The killer is still loose to kill again in Waco.
