Stanaland III, Robert Hinson

Robert Hinson Stanaland III

Jan. 21, 1959 - Jan. 28, 2016

Robert Hinson "Rob" Stanaland III, 57, passed away peacefully at his home in Waco, Texas, on January 28, 2016. Funeral arrangements include a memorial service at 11 a.m., Monday, Feb. 8, at St. Jerome Catholic Church in Waco, followed by a private graveside burial. The family will remain following the service to visit with friends.

Rob was born January 21, 1959, in Jacksonville, Florida. He graduated from Sol C. Johnson High School in Savannah, Georgia. As a young man, he began working at golf courses and developed a lifelong passion for the game. One of his greatest joys was a game of golf with friends or especially his brother, Bill. After high school, Rob found a surprising love for piano restoration and obtained a college degree from Grayson College, Sherman, Texas; and that took his life down a different path which brought him to Waco where he made lasting friends through his business.

Rob's greatest love was for the Lord and for his family. Being so far from his siblings, he found family among the congregation of St. Jerome's Catholic Church in Waco. Though he kept in touch with his beloved biological family, he found refuge from his single life in service to the church in the ways that he could. His life was not unlike that of St. Jerome who was content to live an austere life alone but devoted to his calling. So, it is not surprising that he would find a sense of home in the congregation named after that revered Saint.

He was deceased by his mother, Frances LeFils Stanaland; father, Robert Hinson Stanaland II; and sister, Mary L. (Merlynn) Stanaland.

Rob is survived by his brother, William G. "Bill" Stanaland of Elm Mott, Texas; and sisters, Donna S. Hix of Columbus, Georgia, Rita C. Stanaland of Grants Pass, Oregon, and Julia S. Ledford of Wendell, North Carolina. Nephews, nieces and great nieces who always enjoyed being with Rob include: Emet Joel Klepper, Garrett Hix, Michael Ledford, Teresa Ledford, Patricia Berry, Kristi Wells, William Whitlock and Lelia Chance.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to Burt Graham and Dr. Frank Boyd for their friendship to Rob and for their assistance in the days following his death.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jerome Catholic Church, 9820 Chapel Road, Waco, Texas.

Robert was such an amazing and talented person. He could make a tired old piano sound like a concert grand. During conversations he would quote Democracy in America by Alexis de Tocqueville - not easy to read, let alone to memorize! Robert was a good man and devout Christian. We will miss him terribly.
