Cruz Gonzales, 67, of Hillsboro, passed away on Tuesday morning, February 6, 2018, at Providence Health Care Center in Waco. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 10, 2018, at the Vara Martin Daniel Performing Arts Center at Hill College in Hillsboro, with the Most Rev. Michael F. Olson, STD officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Garden of Memory near Hillsboro. A Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m., Friday, February 9, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro, with visitation to follow until 9:00 p.m.
Born on May 6, 1950, in Dallas, he was the son of Mary Francis Gonzales and Robert Hernandez. During the Vietnam War, he served his country in the United States Army. For 42 years, Cruz proudly served the citizens of Hill County, first as a Detective with the Hillsboro Police Department and most recently with the Hill County Sheriff's Department where he honorably retired from Law Enforcement. In his spare-time, he loved to fish. He was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Hillsboro and Knights of Columbus.
Cruz was a very humble man who always found a way to lighten up a room with laughter and smiles. He will be dearly missed.
Survivors include his loving wife of 48 years, Virginia Gonzales; daughters, Mary Jean Castillo, Josephine Young, and Naomi Gonzales; sons-in-law, Rick Castillo, Larry Young, and Tomas Guerrero; grandson, Nicholas Cruz Young; granddaughters, Mia and Sabrina Castillo; sisters, Cynthia Delgadillo and Teresa Fuentes; and brother, Randy Gonzales.
