Robert Lynn Carter, of Waco, Texas, passed away tragically on November 26, 2017. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, December 3, at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Boulevard, Waco, Texas. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 5, at the Moonlight Drive Fellowship Church, 828 W. Moonlight Drive, Robinson, Texas. Burial with military honors will follow at 2:00 p.m., at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 11463 State Highway 195, Killeen, Texas.
Robert was born in Waco, Texas, to Joe Lynn Carter and Patsy Ann (Rappe) Carter. He graduated from Richfield High School in 1972. Upon graduation he married Geni Kay Reeves and enlisted in the United States Army where he was stationed in Frankfurt, Germany and served active duty from 1972 to 1975. He served in the Army Reserves, 348th Engineering Battalion from 1975 to 1995. During his time in the reserves, he was called into active duty twice, once being to serve in Operation Desert Shield in the Gulf War. After his active duty service Robert worked as a mechanic in Waco for 30 years, acting as Shop Foreman for Bird Kultgen Ford for 21 years.
He enjoyed the outdoors and loved bass fishing. He also greatly enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle with friends. He looked forward to the family dinners they had every Monday night where the immediate family would all gather for fellowship. One of his greatest passions however, was serving the veterans of Central Texas. He volunteered his time and energy at the Central Texas Veterans One Stop, Chairman of the Gulf War Group, Chairman of the Veterans Advisory Committee, Waco Task Force to Save the VA Medical Center, Commander of the VFW Post 2034, Commander of the American Legion 1212, a charter member and chaplain of the American Legion Riders, and Board Member of the American Legion. He also organized the annual Veteran's Day parade in Waco for the past several years.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Geni Kay Carter; and his mother, Patsy Ann Carter.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Roxanna Kay Carter; sons, Bryan Keith Carter and wife, Ashley, and their children, Shelby and Bailey, and Christopher Kyle Carter; daughter, Caisy and Nicholas Lynn Carter; step-daughters, Renee Colon and children, Jamie, Joshua, and Andrea, Marla Cortes and children, Leleana, Cheyenne and Soleil; sisters, JoAnn Carter Elting and husband, Brent, Cindy Carter McBurnett and husband, John; brother, Raymond Carter and wife, Beverly, and father, Joe Carter and wife, Betty.
Pallbearers will be Ray Black, Lloyd Coffman, Stan Hough, Terry Scott, Mike Simon, and Frank Traplena.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Robert's name to the Central Texas Veterans One Stop at 2010 LaSalle Ave, Waco, Texas, 76706.A public celebration of Robert's life is being planned for the public and details will be announced at a later date. He was a wonderful husband, father, son, PawPaw, brother and cousin and will be very dearly missed. "Ride safe and fish tomorrow."
