Edward Lane Bird, Jr.

Aug. 9, 1951 - Dec. 2, 2017

Edward Lane Bird, Jr., lovingly known to most as "Ed", 66, of Waco, passed away on Saturday, December 2, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. Family and friends will gather for a memorial visitation from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 5, at Journey Christian Community Church, 10424 China Spring Road in Waco. A memorial service celebrating Ed's life and his faith will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 6, at Journey Christian Community Church in Waco.

Ed was born August 9, 1951 in Gladewater, Texas to Edward Lane, Sr. and Fayrene Virginia Roberts Bird. His family moved to the Winnsboro, Texas, where he finished his schooling. It was during his high school years that he met the love of his life, Janis Lynn Dickey; they were married just after graduating, July 31, 1970.

Ed's family owned and operated a local grocery store in Winnsboro, "Bird's Drive In"; he worked there for many years. He enjoyed being involved in the small town community, was always energetic to have a big part in the community events. Ed worked also for many years as the manager for several, "Love's" and "Total" Truck Stops and then later for FedEx Ground. It was 2004; Ed achieved his license as a Real Estate Agent and came to the Waco area to work alongside his son, Jeff Bird. Together with their team, they have provided home buying and selling advice to endless families in the Waco and surrounding area, through Keller Williams Realty.

Ed enjoyed spending time with family and friends, was always known for imparting his wisdom or "Edisms" for anyone that would listen. He also enjoyed golfing, fishing as long as there was a good cold beer involved and would go hunting as well but never really with the intent on killing anything. One of the most famously heard "Edisms" was, "There ain't nothing you can break that I can't fix!" Ed will be truly missed for his energetic personality and his love for his family and friends.

Ed was preceded in death by his father, Edward Lane Bird, Sr.

Ed leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of over 47 years, Janis Bird; mother, Fayrene Bird; children, Gregory Adam Bird and girlfriend, Laura Ulum, Jeffery Lane Bird and wife, Shawn, and David Michael Bird and wife, Katie; brother, Steven Bird and wife, Denise; five grandchildren, Braylan Lane Bird, Sidney Marie Bird, Hunter Preston Bird, Lillian Abigail Bird, and Lucas Michael Bird; along with numerous other loving family members and a host of friends.

In lieu of flowers, Ed's family request donations be sent to KW Cares or Journey Christian Community Church in his memory.
