Sharon Joan Culp Anderson, 75, beloved wife, mother and Nana passed through the gates of Heaven to walk the streets of gold with her Lord and Savior on July 15, 2017, in Temple, Texas. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 18, at College Avenue Baptist Church in McGregor, Texas, with the Rev. David Thompson officiating. Interment will follow at McGregor Cemetery.
Born on May 14, 1942, to Lillie Mable and Roy Hudson Culp. Joan lived in McGregor until the last 10 years of her life. She attended McGregor schools, graduating in 1960. On February 10, 1961, Joan married her high school sweetheart, the love of her life and soul mate, Ray Anderson. To that union, they adopted their "Gift from God," Angela "Angie" Kay, in October of 1965. Joan worked at First National Bank of McGregor as a secretary from May of 1960 until 1973. In 1978, she began working at Rocket Federal Credit Union in McGregor where she was a teller, loan officer, bookkeeper, and was the manager when she retired March 31, 2005. In August of 2007, Joan and Ray moved into their new home they built in Crawford to be closer to family.
Joan accepted the Lord as her personal Savior as a young girl while attending First Baptist Church of McGregor. She later joined College Avenue Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher, church clerk, choir member, and the Sunday School secretary. She enjoyed serving the Lord wherever her talents were needed.
Joan had a servant's heart, a radiant smile, and she enjoyed watching her grandsons, Travis and Tye participate in their various activities. Nothing gave her more pleasure than to hear either one of them say "Nana, do you think you could ..."Preceding her in death were her parents; two daughters, Lory DeAnn and Carol Jo; sister, Mildred Baker; and brothers, Roy Lee Culp and Jesse Culp.
Survivors include husband Ray of 56 years; daughter and son-in-law, Angie and Jeff Slaughter; grandsons, Travis and Tye; and sister, Dovie Luedeker; along with many nieces, nephews and close friends.
