By Terri Jo Ryan
Tribune-Herald staff writer
Radio was still a youthful medium when the big bands were in their heyday in Waco. Besides the periodic appearance of traveling headliners, such as the Benny Goodman Orchestra or the Artie Shaw Band, the heart of Texas was blessed with a bevy of home-grown musical talent.
From cookin’ little jazz combos of the ’20s to the large swing bands of the ’30s and ’40s, live music was a leading form of local entertainment.
