Brazos Past: Junior League identities revealed
By Terri Jo Ryan
Special to the Tribune-Herald
Waco Today, the monthly magazine published by the Tribune-Herald, asked readers in its July issue for help identifying some playful members of the Junior League from the 1950s depicted on page 51 of the publication.
Several readers called in, so we are happy to clear up that historical mystery.
We also wondered who was Miss Fish Pond of 1946, seen in the July 9 edition of Brazos Past. She has been identified as Lisa Lin of California, known as Martha Elizabeth McClellan, of Waco, back then.
Local history researcher Mark Firmin, meanwhile, said he has since learned all of the Little Miss Fish Pond portraits that were in the Fish Pond Clubhouse were moved to Ridgewood Country Club when the facility was acquired in 1988.
Plans are under way for some kind of reunion of former club members and employees, he said.
Firmin is writing a book about the historic Waco Boating and Fishing Club and seeks more documentation, photographs and oral history interviews.
