A Waco pilot walked away unhurt after his Pitts aerobatic biplane spun around during a takeoff at McGregor Executive Airport Saturday afternoon.

Texas Department of Public Safety investigators said Maxwell Shauck was attempting to get the craft aloft when the right brake locked up, pulling the plane to the right side of the runway, where it hit a runway light and blew a tire. The right wheel gear collapsed during the resulting spin-around.

Shauck is the former chair of the Baylor University aviation sciences department.

In standard procedure in aircraft accidents, McGregor police turned the initial investigation over to the DPS.

Federal Aviation Administration officials will take up the investigation Monday.
