A three-vehicle collision on Highway 84 west of McGregor killed a woman from Oglesby Wednesday night, Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. D.L. Wilson said.

Authorities were called to the intersection of U.S. Highway 84 and Burkett Lane, between McGregor and Oglesby, shortly after 6 p.m. Wilson said a Honda passenger car had slowed to make a left turn onto Burkett Lane when a Kia passenger car following the Honda hit it from behind and pushed it into the path of a semi pulling an empty tanker trailer.

Wilson said both the Honda and tractor-trailer caught fire in the collision. The driver the the tractor-trailer, a man from Pharr, escaped uninjured, but the driver of the Honda died at the scene.

Preliminary investigation indicates the driver of the Honda was a 55-year-old woman from Oglesby. Wilson said officials are waiting for autopsy results for positive identification.

Wilson said the driver of the Kia, a woman from Lampasas, was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries. Troopers continued to investigate the collision Thursday.
