An electrical fire at a substation in North Waco left about 6,000 residents, street lights and businesses without power for about 40 minutes Thursday afternoon.

A fire was reported at an electrical substation near North 27th Street and Colonial Avenue when a piece of equipment failed at 3:41 p.m. Fire crews responded and extinguished the blaze, but power outages hit a large section of North Waco.

The interruption caused about 6,000 outages, Oncor regional manager Michael Baldwin said. Power was restored to all customers by 4:22 p.m., Baldwin said.
