A Hewitt woman was arrested early Wednesday morning after she spit at an officer and resisted arrest at Warren Park, Hewitt Assistant Police Chief Tuck Saunders said.

Deja Denise Black, 29, was arrested after a Hewitt officer spotted a parked car at Warren Park, 450 S. Old Temple Road, at about 12:30 a.m. Saunders said the officer approached the car and saw the window was slightly lowered when he noticed an odor of marijuana coming from the car.

Police tried to get the woman to step out of the car and provide identification to the officer, but the woman refused. Saunders said police tried to take Black into custody, but she resisted arrest and spit on one of the officers.

Officers were able to detain Black and arrested her on a third-degree felony charge of harassment of a public servant, a Class A misdemeanor charge of resisting arrest and a Class B misdemeanor charge of possession of marijuana.

Black was taken to McLennan County Jail. She was released on an $8,000 bond by Wednesday afternoon.
