A 42-year-old woman was arrested Monday, accused of stealing jewelry worth $6,200 from her 65-year-old landlord in July, according to an arrest affidavit.

The landlord had hired Christie Lee Ahlgrim-Skinner and given her a place to stay on her property in Lorena and permission to be in her residence, McLennan County Sheriff Parnell McNamara said.

The landlord noticed several pieces of jewelry missing and believed Ahlgrim-Skinner may have stolen the jewelry and pawned it at a local shop, according to the affidavit.

A sheriff's deputy found several pieces of the woman's jewelry at a local pawn shop and was able to verify Ahlgrim-Skinner sold the jewelry, the affidavit states.

"We don't tolerate abuse or theft from the elderly. We take that very seriously," McNamara said. "What makes this even more aggravating is that this woman stole from someone who was helping her out, gave her a place to stay and even gave her a job."

Authorities arrested Ahlgrim-Skinner on a third-degree felony charge of theft from the elderly. She remained in McLennan County Jail on Tuesday afternoon with bond listed at $5,000.
