A 20-year-old woman was arrested after she was involved in a mid-January fight with another person and sprayed mace into a car, spraying a 10-year-old child in South Waco, Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said.

Mariah Nichole Shaw, of Waco, was arrested after police began to investigate a fight between Shaw and another person on Jan. 15, near the intersection of South 12th Street and Kennedy Circle. Swanton said the person Shaw was fighting with got into a car and tried to leave.

"Mariah Shaw had a can of mace and when the second person got in the car to leave, Shaw sprayed the can of mace into the car and she actually sprayed it on a 10-year-old child that was in the car," Swanton said. "The child did not need any medical attention."

Police continued to investigate the incident and later received a warrant for Shaw on a second-degree felony charge of injury to a child. She was arrested Saturday and taken to McLennan County Jail.

Shaw remained jailed Monday afternoon with a bond listed at $20,000.
