A man was arrested Tuesday, accused of burning down a North Waco home in early January, according to an arrest affidavit.

David Bryan Freeman, 31, has been charged with arson of a habitation after setting a fire in the early morning hours of Jan. 6 in the 2500 block of N. 21st Street, according to the affidavit. The home was vacant at the time and under contract to be sold by the owner, the document states.

That same night, Waco Fire Department dispatch called Lt. Riley Kilgo, who was investigating the fire, to tell him someone had reported receiving a text message from Freeman. In the text, Freeman states he had started the fire, and Kilgo obtained a copy of the text, the affidavit states.

Freeman has been in the McLennan County Jail since Tuesday, with bond totaling $20,000.
