At least six unlocked cars were burglarized overnight and two handguns were stolen, Robinson police Lt. Jeff Lewellen said Saturday.

Police began receiving reports from residents Saturday morning along San Benito Drive, East Santa Anna Street and Dawn Drive. Lewellen said the six vehicles were left unlocked before two handguns and a watch were reportedly taken out of vehicles.

"We really encourage people to remove any weapons and any valuables out of vehicles and to lock your cars to help deter these burglaries," Lewellen said.

Police believe the burglaries happened late Friday night or early Saturday morning. Tania Ann, a local resident, said a family member's car on Santa Anna Street was burglarized sometime overnight, but a family member captured two people opening car doors on home surveillance video and reported it to police.

"I really hope they catch these people," Ann said. "We live in a very quiet neighborhood where everyone is friends with everyone. It just goes to show you that crime can hit anywhere."

No cars were reported stolen during the burglaries and police continue to investigate, Lewellen said. No arrests were made by Saturday afternoon.

Anyone with information about the car burglaries is asked to contact the Robinson Police Department at 662-0525.
