A Waco woman was arrested late Tuesday night after her husband was taken to a local hospital with multiple stab wounds in his upper torso, Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said.

Officers were called to Providence Health Center at about 8 p.m. after a man came to the hospital suffering from five stab wounds. Swanton said police asked the man about his injuries and was told that his wife, Lakeshia Michelle Washington, 39, stabbed him during an argument at their home in the 3800 block of Cumberland Ave.

Police went to the couple's home later that night and found Washington hiding in a closet, Swanton said. She was arrested on a first-degree felony charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and five outstanding traffic warrants.

Washington was taken to McLennan County Jail, where she remained Wednesday morning with a bond listed at $75,000.
