Waco police are searching for a driver who may have struck and killed a pedestrian early Monday morning and then left the scene.

The body of Cheryle Booker Small, 60, of Waco, was found in the roadway near Hood Street and Harlem Avenue about 3:15 a.m., according to a release from the Waco Police Department. The release does not specify where the incident occurred.

Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said in the release it appears Small was struck by a vehicle, which left the scene. Police have been unable to locate any witnesses to the incident, Swanton said, and are asking anyone with information about the woman’s death to call Waco police at 750-7500.

Justice of the Peace James Lee ordered an autopsy after pronouncing Small dead, Swanton said.
