Lacy Lakeview police are investigating a string of at least six vehicle burglaries that happened over the weekend, Lacy Lakeview Police Chief John Truehitt said.

Residents contacted police between Saturday and Sunday about six vehicles that had been burglarized and one that was reported stolen, Truehitt said. Each of the cars was left unlocked, he said.

Three of the burglaries were in the neighborhood along Meadow Park Circle, and the others happened throughout the city, Truehitt said. Several items were taken from the vehicles, and police are continuing to search for suspects.

"Each of the cars was left unlocked, so it does seem like a crime of opportunities," Truehitt said. "We urge people to lock their vehicles and not to leave anything valuable in their cars."

West residents reported at least nine burglaries of vehicles early Friday morning. Truehitt said it was unknown if the burglaries in West are connected to the Lacy Lakeview crimes, but he said he is reaching out to other agencies for possible connections.

West is about 15 miles north of Lacy Lakeview on Interstate 35.

West police detained a 16-year-old boy and a 17-year-old boy Friday as suspects in the burglaries there. The 17-year-old was arrested on an unrelated marijuana possession charge, and the 16-year-old was released to his parents as police continued their investigation.
