Police released the identity of a man who was killed and another man who was injured Sunday night in two shootings officials believe were connected, Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said Tuesday.

Anthony D. Rivera, 19, of Waco, was killed by gunfire before police were called to the 2300 block of Park Avenue at about 9:40 p.m. after shots were heard in the area. Officers found blood and bullet casings in the area and later learned one man, Rivera, was taken to the hospital with at least one gunshot wound.

Swanton said Rivera later died of his injuries.

While police were on Park Avenue, additional gunshots were heard coming from the area near South 26th Street and Dutton Avenue, police said. Swanton said bullets were also found at the second location and were later notified that Oscar Manuel Segovia, 20, of Waco, was injured in gunfire at that location when a gunshot grazed his arm.

Both shootings are believed to be related, Swanton said. Authorities said they are investigating the potential connected cases as a murder and an aggravated assault case.

No arrests were made by late Tuesday morning. Swanton said the investigation remains ongoing.
