The man suspected of burglarizing a Lacy Lakeview convenience store last week and nicknamed "Sticky Fingers" by police was arrested Wednesday, Lacy Lakeview Police Chief John Truehitt said.

Douglas Wayne Speights, 29, of Lacy Lakeview, was arrested after a loss prevention officer at Walmart, 4320 Franklin Ave., recognized him in the store and called Waco police, Officer Garen Bynum said.

Lacy Lakeview police started to investigate after the Rida Corner Store, 2232 Air Base Road, was burglarized at about 2:20 a.m. Dec. 13. The store was closed at the time. Police reviewed surveillance video that showed a man taking several items from the store.

Officers said the man, later identified as Speights, wore a Brunson Metal Erectors hat into the business.

Police said Speights took off the hat during the burglary, covered his head with a green shirt and continued to take items from the store. Police said Speights left behind the hat and several clothing times in the store. Cash and several other items were taken, police said.

Police issued an arrest warrant for Speights on Monday.

He was arrested Wednesday and taken to McLennan County Jail on a state jail felony charge of burglary of a building. No bond information was immediately available.
