Robinson police are investigating after a Waco pedestrian was hit by a car on North Robinson Drive late Tuesday night, Robinson Police Chief Phillip Prasifka said.

Police were called to the 500 block of North Robinson Drive shortly after 10 p.m. when a man, identified as Lonnie Raymond Martin, 40, was hit and killed by a 1999 Ford pickup truck. Prasifka said the driver of the truck, a 57-year-old man, told police he saw Martin and tried to swerve to miss him, but struck the pedestrian and immediately called police.

Prasifka said roadways were wet in the area after rainfall earlier in the day.

Emergency responders attempted life-saving measures before an ambulance took Martin to Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Medical Center. Martin was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Prasifka said Martin was wearing dark-colored clothing at the time of the crash. Damage to the truck revealed Martin was hit by the right front for the vehicle.

The driver of the truck has been fully cooperative with police during the investigation, which remains ongoing, Prasifka said.
