A child who was reportedly abducted by his biological parents in Hearne was rescued by deputy U.S. marshals after authorities tracked the family to New Mexico, according to officials.

In a news release issued by the federal agency on Thursday, Deputy U.S. Marshal Kevin Scott said the child, 6, was allegedly abducted by 29-year-old Brian Keith Moore and 26-year-old Madeline McCartney-Moore in August in Hearne, about 65 miles southeast of Waco in Robertson County.

The child was with the Moores originally as part of a week-long court-ordered visitation, authorities said. The legal guardians of the child reported the case when the child was not returned.

Robertson County sheriff’s deputies, who investigated the incident, found the Moores’ home abandoned, the livestock released and the couple’s bank accounts closed, according to officials.

County authorities enlisted the help of the U.S. marshals, because it was believed that the Moores had left Texas.

Following a tip, deputy U.S. marshals tracked the Moores to an area near Silver City, N.M., where the child was located unharmed Tuesday, according to the news release.

The child’s grandfather, Michael McCartney, and the Moores were arrested and are awaiting extradition, officials said.

The Robertson County Sheriff’s Office had warrants for the arrest of Brian Keith Moore and Madeline McCartney-Moore on a charge of violation of court order. A warrant for the arrest of Michael McCartney charged him with interference with child custody.
